Alfred Benesch and Company - Structural/Civil Designer

Alfred Benesch & Company specializes in providing quality civil, structural, environmental, landscape architecture, and geotechnical engineering services to clients in transportation and infrastructure development. Since 1946, Benesch has successfully completed thousands of design and engineering projects throughout the United States. We are looking for a Structural and Civil designers for our Pittsburgh, PA office to work on projects throughout PA. Our Company has expanded our PA office locations to Cranberry Township, just north of the City of Pittsburgh. In an effort to expand the Western PA client base, Benesch’s new office will allow for internal growth with new hires, and external growth with potential new clients. The office will provide civil, structural, environmental, municipal, and transportation engineering services throughout Western PA, and parts of Ohio. Benesch is committed to developing the Pittsburgh office and hiring staff to support this effort.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Positive experience interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders
  • Accustomed to working in a team environment on challenging projects
  • Demonstrate ability to integrate data
  • Perform advanced analysis of project elements 
  • Design elements/component of a project and demonstrate awareness of other elements in their design
  • Recognize the need for and develop design details
  • Compute quantities with an understanding of pay items, demonstrating an awareness of the relationship to specifications
  • Collect and integrate cost data for use in preparing cost estimates
  • Demonstrate knowledge of advanced software appropriate for the discipline, showing proficiency in multiple programs specific for this role
  • Layout drawings for a component and demonstrate an understanding of relationship to the whole project
  • Check designs and verify design assumptions
  • Assemble and write competent draft report sections and records of conversation
  • Establish and organize design calculations files for assigned elements
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Demonstrate competent use of Microstation & GEOPAK
  • Demonstrate advanced use of Microsoft Office products
  • Work independently and develop task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

The candidate must have B.S. in civil/structural engineering. 3-5 years of experience. PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike design and planning experience a plus.
